Research journey started with two great mentors...
My primary PhD advisor was Dr. Richard A. Yost at the University of Florida (Chemistry Department, Analytical Division). It was in his lab and under his mentoring that my love for chemistry and all things mass spectrometry started.
My thesis was titled, "Novel analytical strategies for the characterization of steroids and endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) in biological and environmental samples", defended in December 2008. |
My co-mentor was Dr. Louis J Guillette Jr. (Biology Department). Lou was a force. It was being around him that my passion for applying advanced chemical techniques to solve environmental problems blossomed. Lou showed me how to be fearless.
After I graduated, I was fortunate to continue collaborating with Lou while I was at NIST (in South Carolina). Lou unfortunately passed away in 2015; however, all the time I was able to spend with him have molded me in the researcher and mentor I am today in my research group. |
